I am a Speech-Language therapist, after training I worked in the Special Education service in Hastings, and then at Hastings hospital. I then spent time overseas before returning to Hastings Hospital, before moving to Auckland and managing the speech therapy department at Auckland hospital for four years. I then worked in Community Health as a Community Speech-Language Therapist in central, west and north of Auckland. I have also worked as a consultant advisor for North Shore Hospital Speech Therapy during this time.
In 2000 I moved to Wellington with my husband Jim to set up Talklink Wellington.
My role at Talklink Wellington is twofold. I work primarily as a speech-language therapist, assessing client’s communication needs and abilities. Assistive communication solutions are then identified, set up and trialled for clients use. Funding applications are completed on the client’s behalf.
The second part of my job is to manage the Talklink Wellington service. I have responsibility for ensuring that service outcomes and clinical service standards are established and met by all staff. It is also my responsibility to ensure that financial targets and the budget is adhered to. This part of the role also involves liaising with the TalkLink General Manager, and ensuring that the Talklink Board’s vision for TalkLink is met.
