I am a speech-language therapist who joined Talklink Wellington in December 2006. My role includes serving children and adults by assessing communication needs, recommending appropriate communication devices and techniques, and arranging equipment trials. I will also be completing funding applications for equipment for clients following successful trials of equipment.
I joined Talklink Wellington from the United States, where I worked for a non-profit organisation, providing Augmentative Communication assessment and consultation to public schools throughout rural New England.
I grew up near to Portland, Oregon where I first met children using assistive technology to enhance communication at a local inclusive summer camp and outdoor adventures program. This experience encouraged me to train as a speech language therapist with an emphasis on Augmentative Communication.
I studied in Chicago and Melbourne, and completed a Masters in Communication Disorders at Emerson College in Boston. I have experience working in outpatient hospital clinics, day habilitation programs, and skilled nursing facilities.
My paediatric experience includes working with children of all ages with communication delays, motor disorders, as well as autism.
