KiwiChat Camp now happening 1-5 February 2014
Applications have now closed.
The KiwiChat Camp is open to students who:
• are of school age;
• familiar with communication boards/books
• independently using or working towards independent use of a speech generating device such as a Dynavox, Springboard, iPad, Vantage Lite, Alt Chat etc;
• have at least one family member/carer who will be attending the camp with them;
• wish to improve their device use and their general communication competency.
In February 2010 the first ever KiwiChat Camp was held at Totara Springs Camp in Matamata and due to the overwhelming success, KiwiChat Camp was repeated again in May 2011. We plan to run another Totara Springs Camp at the beginning of 2014.
In 2012 we had planned to move KiwiChat Camp to Christchurch in order that students from throughout the South Island would have an opportunity to attend. However due to a number of issues beyond our control we have had to re-think the Camp in Christchurch. Undoubtedly the aftermath of the Christchurch earthquakes has been a contributing factor. The plan now is to go ahead and run KiwiChat Camp at Totara Springs from 1- 5 February 2014. This is to give us more time to fundraise to assist with covering running costs.
We will be working hard with fundraising to help cover the costs of students from the South Island to attend this camp in order that they do not miss out altogether. In addition we are planning to hold KiwiChat Days in Christchurch for school students using communication devices. More information on this new initiative will be available shortly
The KIWICHAT CAMP Theme for 2014 is THE CIRCUS
