Tip of the Month (September 2010) : Saving a Page or Popup as a New Template

If you do not want to use any of the available templates to create a series of pages or popups, you can create your own template.  This can be extremely useful if you have particular buttons that you need to have consistently placed on a page or popup.

I have a template for a popup that always has the “Insert Text” and “Close Popup” behaviour assigned to all the buttons on the popup.   I also need to have the close button at the top right hand corner and in red and the clear button at the bottom right hand corner in purple.  By creating a template and storing it in my Quick Pages means that everyone involved in creating popup’s can easily access this template and then just focus on the new vocabulary buttons required for the activity.

To save a page or popup as a template, follow these steps:

1.       Open the page or popup that you want to save as a template.  Ensure you have made all the changes you need to make as once you same your page or popup as a template you will not be able to make additional changes

2.       Select the Main Menu button in the title bar

3.       Select Page Editing

4.       Select Page Editor

5.       Select the Main Menu button in the title bar

6.       Select File

7.       Select Save as Template. The system keyboard will open

8.       Enter a name for the new template

9.       Select the OK button to close the system keyboard

10.   Select the OK button when the template has been successfully saved

You will now your own custom template with all the relevant changes and additions you need to make creating a popup or page quicker and easier.

Note:  Ensure you add your new template into your Quick Page Templates list.
